DREAM LANGUAGE IN COLOR THESIS RESEARCH

What is the purpose of dreams? The study and interpretation of the images and colors that populate our dreams can be a way to unlock our inner subconsciousness and be used to help understand how we function in our everyday lives. This ideology of recalling and sharing our dreams may help us understand our emotions and inner psyche.

This project, “Dream Language in Color” uses dreams collected in interviews to create animated visualizations, color analysis charts, and audio stories about how specific colors reflect the subconscious. Additionally, a dream sequence, presented as a re-enacted film, shows viewers how color dreams are viewed in the sleep realm. The intention of this project is to encourage dreamers to understand their own dream language.

2020 Thesis Exhibition Room Plan

This gallery was to support an overall experience for the guests. Coming into a personal space of dreamers and seeing their visions come to life. The IPads were to be mounted on the wall showing the voices of the participants and the colors that represented their dreams. The whiteboard was a space for individuals entering the room to write their own dream experiences on a color language dream card. Then, the bottom room planner was to showcase my own personal dream sequence projected on a full screen as the audience walks into this space.

I experimented by creating a mood board

for how I believed dreams would

be depicted in a physical space.

I researched and found these

beautiful dream-like images

from Pinterest and started to

pair them with color gradients

that reminded me of energy

auras. Who knew that these

colorful images would end up

becoming the foundation for my

thesis project.

As I put them together, I started

to see things more clearer, that

those colors we see when we

sleep are fragments pulled from

our dreams to help decipher an

emotional meaning to dreams.

Each image I found told a story

or had a feeling it projected.

Once those colors were

exerted from those dreams,

then the true analysis begins to

unfold through these beautiful

swatches of color.
